BUDDING actors from a Sunderland stage school are helping the nation to get healthy. BUDDING actors from a Sunderland stage school are helping the nation to get healthy. Youngsters from the Activate Drama School have been picked to appear in a series of Government radio ads promoting blood donation and quitting killer cigarettes. Four students from the school, which has produced stars of Byker Grove and Little Ant and Dec, travelled to London to record their parts. Hayden Chipp, eight, from Leechmere Road and Sam Reeves, 10, from Plains Farm both featured in a blood donor radio ad. School leader Lesley McDonough said: "The boys' parents travelled down with them and apparently it went really well. They got it after a few takes." Alana Wallace, eight, from Grangetown, and Sean Clark, seven, from Fulwell, also headed to the capital to appear in an anti-smoking commercial. Lesley, who has about 60 young stars aged from four-and-a-half to 15 on her books, says: "It's not about prima donnas or stage school brats, the kids have a really good time and it helps build confidence." Activate meets in Monkwearmouth and Southmoor schools. Call Lesley on 07989 365737 for more information.
